DJ Bear Reporting from FedCon 20

Guden Tag

I know it’s Day 3 and you haven’t heard much from myself, what can I say it’s been busy for me resting on a bench in the sunshine, developing a rather nice tan if I may say so myself. Well what have I done since I arrived really apart from the nice bench I have found to use as a sun lounger, first day was tiring to say the least straight to work off the plane. I have never really experienced a convention scene before, first of all crowded does not begin to describe the mass movement of people in tiny spaces. The large halls that accommodate the number of people trying to all squeeze in all to see these people that have shaped the franchise that is Star Trek. As you know from Zach’s previous posts the people and guests that are here, the panels we have been too, I give Zach his due everyone of them he has outstandingly put a question out there that will remind people of Trek Radio. Even when he has made a few slip ups, got shouted at by Marina and even told Nicole is attraction to Doctor Bashier, which was quickly corrected lol.

For those new listeners, people tuning in from there trip to FedCon 20 Welcome and hope your enjoying what your getting to listen to on the station. I will be back to work next week with my regularly scheduled show, and here is a little something for those of you just tunning in and are at FedCon 20. If you can find me tomorrow walking around the convention, come up to me and say “Hey DJ Bear I listen to Trek Radio” as load as you can I will give you a Trek Radio t-shirt. There’s your challenge peeps, I will be there from 9ish I don’t do early mind you, until about 19ish tomorrow.  I will not be in hiding or at my bench busy busy last day I hope, enough from me see ya all tomorrow.

FedCon XX Day 2 – Roundup

After returning to my Hotel room last night I was running on 5 hours of sleep for the last 2 days combined, so to say that I was quite tired was an understatement.  I hope you can forgive me for passing out and not writing the Day 2 roundup until now!

From the getgo, it was obvious that Day 2 of FedCon was going to be huge compared to Day 1.  From 8.30am there were huge queues of people waiting to get in (things open up at 9.15am), there were more costumes, more people, more noise, more girls, everything!

Richard Dean Anderson, Paul Mcgillion, Scott Bakula, Robert McNeill and Marina Sirtis were certainly our favourite panels of the day and generally speaking, we’ve met some wonderful people that we will hopefully remain friends with for years and years to come.

As Master of Ceremonies, Garrett Wang appears frequently on the stage with hilarious comments here and quiet quips there, very funny indeed – during the McNeill panel, Wang was on stage almost as much as McNeill so we are very much looking forward to their joint panel on Sunday.

Here are some more general photos from Day 2, enjoy and stay tuned for our Day 3 coverage starting soon!

FedCon XX Day 2 – Marina Sirtis

During the press conferance on the first day, I become a target for Marina Sirtis.  Its true!  At one point, I made the mistake of asking Richard Dean Anderson a question and she didn’t take kindly to that on the basis that I was from TREK Radio.   When I get back home, I’ll post the audio clip of her “laying into” me – she was just playing as we had a hug afterwards and she kissed me on the cheek, however, going into her panel on Day 2, I was a little worried that she might have been serious.

Sirtis was welcomed onto the stage with possibly one of the largest rounds of applause I’ve heard yet during FedCon and after coming onto the stage she introduced members of her family that had flown in from around the world to support her – it was very nice to see!

During her panel, she was asked several great questions such as wether she would want to be empathic in real life (to which she responded no), whether she liked kissing Riker with his beard (no) and a couple of stories regarding her Dog, which Dorn and LeVar Burton tried to microwave one day.   Then I took the oppurtunity to ask a question – I won’t tell you what it was but you can download this file and have a listen to my question here!

Sirtis brought down the house and near the end of the panel she said “I just want to thank you all, you are all f**k**g great, everything I have in my life is because of you”.  She then added “……..My Porsche, My House, My Clothes”.

FedCon XX Day 2 – Richard Dean Anderson

Of course we do realize that Richard Dean Anderson is from totally the wrong franchise, but to be honest, the guy is such a legend that it would be a crime not to write a little about his first one hour panel at FedCon in Dusseldorf, Germany.

We tweeted all through his panel yesterday with highlights from his panel – it started out with a surprise for Richard, when he first came on stage as over 300 costumed Stargate fans were brought onto the stage in his honor with characters including SGC personel, Atlantis personel, Baal, Jaffa, Gou’ald, a Gou’ald Queen, Wraith and much much more.   “I just wasn’t expecting this” said Anderson.

During his panel, there did seem to be a few rather eccentic fan questions with one fan even being booed away by the audience at one point however its safe to say that Anderson was one of the stars of day 2.

We have some photos from his panel that can be found here, please enjoy!

FedCon XX Day 2 – Scott Bakula

One of the main Star Trek panels of FedCon XX this year is the rare appearence of Scott Bakula, Captain Jonathan Archer from Enterprise.  Bakula appeared on Trek Radio a few weeks ago for a short telephone interview, so if you missed that please check it out.

Welcomed onto the stage with thuderous applaus, Bakula was instantly made to feel at home as questions kept coming from fans in Enterprise uniforms – “I keep seeing my uniforms” he said.

Bakula was asked several times by the audience to sing and did wonderfuly render a few lines from songs such as “Imagine”, “Volaire” and “Faith of Heart”, the enterprise theme tune – “fans in the US hate the enterprise theme tune, but fans from Europe love it – personally I love it too” he said!

During the panel, one audience member asked him which was his favorite episode to which he responded “In a Mirror Darkly”, however Trek Radio later asked him why that was his favorite episode pointing out that he died in it.  We also took the oppurtunity to get in some defense for the rank of “Ensign” which had been under fire for the last two days (by guests taunting Garrett Wang over never being promoted) by pointing out that it was Ensign Sato who outsmarted him and other to become Empress of the Mirror Empire!

All in all, an absolutely fantastic panel from Bakula and we will definetly be there to see him again on Day 3! Here are some photos!

Girls of FedCon XX – Day 2 [Part 1]

If you thought the Girls of FedCon XX Day 1 were hot, then wait until you see the smoking hotties in attendance today.   Its only 6 hours into todays lineup and I have already been lucky enough to snap shots of at least 15 gorgeous girls, all of whom which are very sweet and have great personalities, reflected both in their costumes and the short amount of banter I had with them!

With 9 hours left to go today, I am sure to find a whole bunch more lovely ladies to take photos with but for now, I hope you will enjoy and appreciate the following gals – let us know when you think of them, they’ll all be coming here to check out your comments on them! (by the way, I’d let the Seven of Nine look-alike assimilate me any day – and if the Orion Slave Girl needs a new master, I hope she’ll give me a call!)

Fedcon Day 2 – Robert Duncan McNeill

A couple of moments ago, Robert McNeill finished his first panel here at FedCon in Dusseldorf, Germany and what a funny panel it was.  During the panel, McNeill talked about his current work on Chuck, which is currently on the bubble meaning they have no idea if they’ll be back for a new season.  He also talked about his experiences working on Voyager including an instance where he found some glue that looks just like snot, and decided to smear it over his face much to the dismay of the cast when they saw it.   “Kate Mulgrew just yelled out in digust, grabbed a bunch of Kleenex and told me to clean my face right away” he said to thunderous laughter from the crowd.

During the panel, Voyager co-star Garret Wang popped out several times to harrass his friend, however McNeill got his revenge by quipping that he went from Lieutenant to Ensign and back to Lieutenant again over the course of the show, while Wang stayed an Ensign for the whole seven seasons.  Wang popped his head through the Stargate with a sad look on his face.

Photos from the panel can be found by clicking here and more FedCon XX coverage will be coming throughout the day, so check back every hour!!

FedCon XX – Day 2 – Kate Vernon

Unfortunatly, we only caught the last half of Kate Vernon’s panel due to a little confusion about its scheduled time, however, during the parts that we caught, we can reveal that Kate looked beautiful and discussed several aspects of her character, Ellen Tigh from Battlestar Galactica such as her poisen/death scene, the resurrection scene and more.   Regarding the resurrection scene, she commented that while she was lucky enough to have her own “bath”, other actors had to share baths meaning hair sometimes got caught in the viscous fluid and then stuck to the bodies of the other actors – not very nice.

She also revealed that she had to be completely nude in all of those “bath” scenes.   Here are some photos from the panel, we hope you enjoy them!
