WHAT IS “PRELUDE TO AXANAR”? WHAT IS “AXANAR”?

Prelude to Axanar is a short film that gives viewers a historical look at the events leading up to the Battle of Axanar, the central event of Star Trek: Axanar, to be filmed later this year. Shot in the style of a History Channel documentary, Prelude to Axanar will be Star Trek like you have never seen it before: showing the central characters of Axanar giving both a historical and personal account of the war. How did Starfleet build its fleet? How did they hold off a Klingon fleet that had been conquering star systems for centuries? What role did the various founding planets play in Starfleet? Why were the Constitution class ships so important to Starfleet? How did Garth of Izar come to be regarded as the greatest Starfleet Captain of his time? These questions are answered in Prelude to Axanar.

Star Trek: Axanar is a groundbreaking independent film that proves studios don’t need to spend millions of dollars to produce a feature quality production.  The goal is for Star Trek: Axanar to be the first non-CBS/Paramount production to look and feel like a true Star Trek movie.

The story of Garth of Izar, a character only seen in one episode of the original Star Trek series, is one writer/producer Alec Peters first wrote 20 years ago.  It wasn’t until 3 years ago, after playing Garth in the well known Star Trek: Phase II fan film, did Alec turn the story into a screenplay. But making a fan film did not interest Alec.

A veteran entrepreneur and 2004 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year winner, Alec decided if he was going to make Axanar, it needed to look like a feature film. Alec recruited his good friend Christian Gossett, a visual artist whose graphic novel The Red Star earned him fans such as James Cameron and Ridley Scott.  His first short film won several awards on the film festival circuit and his second film looks like it has Oscar potential in the short film category.

Axanar has already begun to attract attention from Star Trek fans who want to see something new and innovative.
